For every RAP song, there is a common structure, there are three verses and three choruses. In this blog post, we will focus on verses, since we want to talk about BARS. Verses are made up of BARS. In fact, every verse is usually 16 bars. So when you are writing your song or checking for BARS in your favourite song, you may double check to ensure that there are 16 bars in there.
The question then is, what is a BAR? It is simply a MEASURE. Every BAR in a verse has four (4) measures or counts. Usually figures like 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Now let’s come to how you can determine how many BARs your favourite RAP song have. Imagine how you start nodding your head as soon as your favourite RAP song/beat starts?
If you nod right, you will notice that your head is moving at an even pace, and interestingly, a certain sound patterns begin to emerge.
So now click play, your favourite RAP song and let’s do this. Start counting from 1 to 4, to complete your first BAR, at start of the song, then repeat it but this time, repeat with 2, 2, 3, 4, then 3, 2, 3, 4 and 4,2,3,4 and so on, as seen below, till the song ends.
If you did it right, you will count 16 bars in each verse, as seen below. Repeat the process alone, and make sure you get it right. it is fun!
